Frequently Asked Questions

This page is for sharing with you the many questions people ask most often.
Hopefully this will help you to better understand what I do and how I do it.

Did you go to school to learn how to draw?

Yes, I attended the Massachusetts College of Art, but I am largely self-taught and on-the-job experienced.  It's practice, practice, practice.   An artist never stops learning.

Did you always draw?

Yes, ever since I saw my first Disney feature film.  I was just amazed that such a thing of beauty could be created by drawing - by simple pencil and paper.

Do you ever use the computer in your work?

Yes, but only for airbrushing and coloring.  I also do digital inking but prefer doing it by hand with ink and brush.  It's more natural and gives the characters a more human quality.

Are you allowed to draw any character?

Sure, as long as I've been hired by the company who owns the copyright to the character.

Which one of your books is your favorite?

Usually the one I'm working on right now.  My favorite book in the recent past is "Power Pals" starring the PowerPuff Girls.  It's a fun story with a good lesson.  PLUS! I did the whole art package: the penciling, digital inking, full coloring and the lettering on the backgrounds.  Fun!

Where can I buy your books?

Everywhere it seems these days!   Best bet: Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble.com using my name as the key word in search.  OR write to me.  For cost of the book plus shipping, I would be glad to send it to you with a personal autograph.

How does someone hire you?

By writing to address above.  My excellent agent in New York handles all book assignments from the NY publishers.

How long does it take to draw a whole book?

It depends on the detail and the amount of characters, but most books take one month from thumbnail sketches, to pencils, to inks to color.

Where do you get your ideas from?

My children. They are a great source of initial ideas and also give their feedback on my projects, especially those with my own characters.

If there are other questions someone might have, where could they write to you?

E-mail me at 2markstudio@verizon.net.  I can't guarantee an immediate reply but will definitely be in touch as soon as possible.
